The Hyundai Department Store Pangyo branch, which has changed the paradigm of department stores, embarked on the project with the aim of creating a more advanced form of shopping mall by building infrastructures with sculptural functions for the first time in a department store and establishing an optimal digital media environment. As the largest department store in Korea, covering an area nine times the size of Jamsil Baseball Stadium, the scope of construction was extensive. Approximately 170 monitors and 95 PCs were installed for various types of media throughout the store, including elevators from the underground 6th floor to the ground 1st floor, the ceiling of the underground 1st floor food court adorned with a gigantic DID, a large LED in the void space welcoming customers on the 1st floor, and media to be completed with one interior design on each floor. The variety of media to be built in proportion to the vast space of Hyundai Department Store required careful balancing of the overall media composition according to the concept of each space and content, giving more weight to areas such as the food court, void space on the 1st floor, 4th floor, and information kiosks. Challenges were overcome through multiple resolution tests, on-site sample tests, color adjustments, and integration of all media with CMS for easy operation by the client in the future.
With Vinyl-i’s digital new media, Hyundai Department Store Pangyo branch conveys a more sophisticated and modern feel to customers than traditional department stores. After its launch, the Hyundai Department Store Pangyo branch recorded sales of 18.1 billion won and 650,000 visitors during its first weekend, establishing itself as the shopping mecca and trendy hotspot of the area in no time. The underground food court with Vinyl-i’s media ceiling and the 4th floor space with digital VM received particularly high praise from the client.
